  • Chevron has a long, robust history, which began when a group of explorers and merchants established the Pacific Coast Oil Co. on Sept. 10, 1879. Since then, the Chevron company’s name has changed more than once, but has always retained the founders’ spirit, grit, innovation and perseverance.

Over the years, Chevron has joined with other companies, each with their own history, strengths and character. Chevron has grown from a San Francisco-based company with a five-state market in the Western United States to a major corporation whose subsidiaries conduct business worldwide. Throughout, Chevron has retained it’s fundamental purpose: to provide the energy people need to fuel human progress.

At Chevron, our businesses work in concert to provide the energy that drives human progress. Explore Chevron’s companies to learn how we use our global resources, determination and ingenuity to meet today’s complex energy challenges.

“Sunshine Gasoline Distributors is a leader in the gasoline distribution and fuel marketing industry recognized for its commitment to excellence, employee-focused and family operation.”
MAXIMO ALVAREZ President, Sunshine Gasoline Distributors, Inc.
Sunshine Gasoline Distributors, Inc. opened its doors for business in 1987 and has been growing with the South Florida community ever since. The company was founded by owner and president, Maximo Alvarez, a Cuban native transplanted to Miami at the age of thirteen via Operation Pedro Pan. Mr. Alvarez has contributed his success to his humble roots and strict belief in helping those of the community less fortunate than ourselves. Sunshine Gasoline laid the foundation for its vast distributorship network by being the only company in town with a no-nonsense, truthful attitude and the ability to do business on a handshake.
Although details have changed over the past years, the principals remain the same. Throughout its life, Sunshine Gasoline has enlisted the aid of former major oil company employees to contribute to the 40 plus years of experience in the business. The combined knowledge and experience allows the company a leading edge and remarkable insight to the world of light oils retailing. Sunshine shares this knowledge freely and is greatly used to the benefit of all of their clients and business partners.Because of his humble beginnings, Maximo Alvarez has always believed in helping the community, as well as the industry in which he has spent most of his career. Mr. Alvarez has been very involved in the Florida Petroleum Marketers Association and was elected Chairman of the Board in 2000 and inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2005. He has worked closely with the Petroleum Council as a tireless advocate for the industry. He has also received awards for his work in Hope for Vision and the Transplant Foundation. In 2006, Maximo became a trustee of Pedro Pan Group, a non-profit organization for immigrant children. In 2010, he was inducted into the Belmont Abbey Wall of Fame. He later received a doctorate of laws honoris causa from Belmont Abbey in 2015. Mr. Alvarez serves as a trustee for The First Tee, a junior program that sets out to positively impact the lives of young people through the game of golf. In 2016, he was appointed by Rick Scott, the governor of Florida, to serve on the Florida State University Board of Trustees. In addition, he is also serving as chairman of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Florida Consumers’ Council, appointed by the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam. Sunshine Gasoline has been a constant sponsor of Miami Children’s Hospital and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mr. Alvarez’s biggest dream was recently fulfilled when Centro Hispano Catolico opened its door to over 300 children. The Centro Hispano Catolico is a day care center for under privileged children created in honor of Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh. Mr. Alvarez is a strong believer in the philosophy that every new generation must be better than the last. This philosophy is carried out by his legacy of generosity that began when he was thirteen years old. Ever grateful of the country that allowed him to be where he is today and proud of his success, he states; “If I were to give back everything I have today, it would only be 10% of what was given to me”.
